Host, Michael Wu proceeded the meeting as efficiently as before. First he introduced http://foxwell.studio/ ;https://standardresume.co/michaelwu
http://foxwell.studio/ run by himself to help students admitted for American further studies and hopped on to the following as scheduled:
Why students study aboard?
1. They lack confidence in Taiwanese education
2. Studying abroad can offer job potentials
3. It suffices their dream for “further education”
4. They can be completely immersed in and assimilated with the cultural and authentic environment as suggested in a movie “Brad’s Status”.
Some Info on admission to American Universities from Michael:
1. The earlier exposure in the language, the better the later assimilation. Other participants echoed by their own experience as two-year-learning in Australia, studying in France without any basic French or being a one-semester as exchange student
2. Those pursuing the admission from the prestigious Ivy League U get higher scores in math for the relative competitiveness in contrast with English comprehension test score.
3. Different from AP or BP tests, the SAT score is designed for the academic purposes!!
4. “Common APP”, a “free application software”, is also recommended for a “draft writing” reference.
5. As LA is most populated, famous Universities have branches in LA such as UCSD, UCLA, UCLA Berkeley and so on, which can be considered applicants’ choices.
Authentic Oral English Acquisition
1. “Linking and intonation”: Michael demonstrated with participants the examples shown in the book “American Accent Training” (A book with a CD can be bought in stores for practice if interested).
2. “Shadowing”: Muscle your tongue and imitate some English audio/video at exact speed and tone.
Language Learning Survey among 7 participants
1. Country to go abroad: two for Australia; two for Japan; one for Switzland; one for Italy; one for the USA or China.
2. The reasons to go there: For culture( history, geography, architecture); for people; for beautiful landscape; for quality life
3. How long you plan to stay: Three months at least; most of participants like to stay two or three years; even two want to stay for a lifetime.
1. Comparing the lives in the dream “country” with those in Taiwan: Most participants agree that every country has its own uniqueness in weakness and strength; as they stay in their “dream” country for a while, they can reflect on their “mother country” deeply!!!
Reflections:
It is really a fruitful and interesting meeting ever under the guidance of “Super Teacher” Michael and the shared experience of the attendees. We appreciated very much Michael’s dedication to Blissers and living examples of perseverance in learning English well!!! We high recommend his “class” and look forward to his next meeting soon.
