This week I am going to share the movie: Wall Street Money Never Sleeps (English subtitle)

This movie is the sequel from the original 1987 - Wallstreet acting by Charlie SheenMichael Douglas
The latest movie is under the background of the 2008 world financial crisis triggered by the subprime mortgage and following the fall-down of the stock, bank titan Lehman Brothers Holdings Inc.

Whether or not you like the financial world, it is dominating our world in nearly everything from individual bank saving, fund raising, investment and even the national debts.
Face and learn what the world financial center - Wallstreet has trembled and manipulated the world simply among the leaping fingers by a bunch of stockers & bankers.

Dear Bliss members,

Last week Willy gave us a great afternoon. He showed various kinds of licenses and certificates, many of them I hadn’t ever heard of. He also brought his scuba diving equipments such as compressed-air cylinder, fin, mask, diving glove, wet suit…, etc.  Each of us tried on them and took pictures.  It’s interesting to put on scuba diving equipments in a coffee shop, isn’t it?  Haha.  Willy also prepared many gifts including Taipei flower expo tickets, thanks Willy for his generous gifts for us.  And thanks Joey, Elise, Barkley and Patrick for sharing your experience of acquiring certificates.  This is our meeting photo link: http://picasaweb.google.com/ilovebliss.taipei/DiscoverYourOwnValueByWillyNov6th#

This week, Clark will talk about ‘Marketing’. If you’re a sales person, you must come and join us.  After the meeting, Owen and Ellen invite us to a feast of 羊肉爐.  If you can’t make it for the meeting, you’re welcome to join our dinner.

Topic:  "Marketing" -- A Commonly Misunderstood Term

Marketing is about responding to consumers' needs. It is important to find out what these needs are before launching a new product. A business conducts market research to help identify gaps in the market and business opportunities.

Before you learn more about marketing, you should get a basic impression of what marketing is.

Basically, you might look at marketing as the wide range of activities involved in making sure that you're continuing to meet the needs of your customers and are getting appropriate value in return.

Think about marketing as "inbound" and "outbound" marketing.

Inbound Marketing Includes Market Research to Find Out:

  1. What specific groups of potential customers/clients (markets) might have which specific needs
  2. How those needs might be met for each group (or target market), which suggests how a product might be designed to meet the need
  3. How each of the target markets might choose to access the product, etc.
  4. How much the customers/clients might be willing pay and how (pricing analysis)
  5. Who the competitors are (competitor analysis)
  6. How to design and describe the product such that customers/clients will buy from the organization, rather than from its competitors (its unique value proposition)
  7. How the product should be identified -- its personality -- to be most identifiable (its naming and branding)

Outbound Marketing Includes:

  1. Advertising and promotions (focused on the product)
  2. Sales
  3. Public and media relations (focused on the entire organization)
  4. Customer service
  5. Customer satisfaction

Too often, people jump right to the outbound marketing. As a result, they often end up trying to push products onto people who really don't want the products at all. Effective inbound marketing often results in much more effective -- and less difficult -- outbound marketing and sales.

Agenda:

14:00~ 14:15  Warm up

14:15~ 15:00   Marketing Basics/Marketing Planning/Marketing Environment

15:00~ 15:10  Tea Break

15:10~ 16:00  Buyer Behavior/Marketing Mix (Product, Price, Place, Promotion)

16:00~ 16:10  Tea Break

Dear Blissers,

Last Saturday we had a great weekend enjoying the meeting and dinner. Our host, Kurt, taught us lots of knowledge about camera for the first half of the meeting, and for the second half, each of us made our own camera!!  Kurt told us what aperture and shutter are, how they function, and the relationship between the two. He also showed us how photos were taken when cameras were just invented. And then, surprisingly, each of us made our own hand-made cameras!!!  If you’re interested in seeing the cameras that we made in the meeting, please have a look at our meeting photos. Here’s the web link: http://picasaweb.google.com/ilovebliss.taipei/ABCSOfPhotographyByKurtOct30th#

This week our senior member, Willy, is going to host a meeting regarding various kinds of licenses and certificates. It’s a quite unique topic, and I believe it’ll be full of fun.  Come and just us!!  The following agenda is from Willy.

Best Regards,

Mengta

A. Topic: discover your own value

B. Main Activities & Brief Description of the Content:

INTRODUCTION:

Since my kid has come to this world, Taiwanese Law allowed me to be the legal guardian or custodian of him.  Under the rule, I have to follow all kinds of business, operations and matters about him.  Until now I have collected so many documents, certificate and license.  They are including birth certificate, National healthy insurance IC card(健保卡), insurance certificate, medical certificate, diagnosis, member card for Toysrus.  In the mean time, my uncle and grandfather had passed away.  I helped family members to follow all matters.  They are including death certificate, property list, a inheritance tax, insurance certificate.  Suddenly I found that everyone in the world and society from birth to death is always happen connects with documents, certificate and license.

For examples:

Go to bank: double certificates / documents / licenses (雙證件)

Go to telephone company: double certificates / documents / licenses雙證件

Go aboard: passport, visa, property certificate

Looking for g job: resume, an autobiography

Besides, in recent years, Taiwanese people are experiencing a difficult reforming process of globalization, the competition from mainland China makes this situation worse. Although our government is trying his best to reduce unemployment rate, finding a good job is still a big challenge.  Nevertheless, there are some people who are not afraid of loosing job and are still capable of consuming expensive products.  I have managed my trading companies for 10 years, but looking 10 years ahead of my career plan,  I am not sure if I will be competitive in the job market when looking at my resume.  In order to be competitive in the job market, it is crucial to have licenses or certificate to prove our own value.

Everyone owned licenses does believe the successful formula:
Choosing target → decide to take exam → study hard → third party approved → to affirm yourself → adding salary or promotion

All reasons and stories made me to choose the topic as the meeting’s issue.  After I surveyed and studied all documents and certificates, I am going to another level and have new view for those documents – Value.  The birth certificate proved the fact of birth, but the back story is mother spent 37-40 weeks in pregnancy and careful have the baby.  The graduation certificate proved the fact you have finished the courses and passed all examinations.  But the back story is how hard you studies and borrowed money for school’s tuition.  Therefore, I decided to share the story about my diving license and the patent.

In the beginning of meeting, we need to find out the difference between license and certificate:

The definition of license:

The license means to give permission.  The noun license refers to that permission as well as to the document recording that permission.  License may be granted by a party ("licensor") to another party ("licensee") as an element of an agreement between those parties.  In particular a license may be issued by authorities, to allow an activity that would otherwise be forbidden.  It may require paying a fee and/or proving a capability.

The requirement may also serve to keep the authorities informed on a type of activity, and to give them the opportunity to set conditions and limitations.

The definition of certificate:

A certificate is an official document affirming a fact.  For example, a birth certificate or death certificate testifies to basic facts regarding a person's birth or death.  A certificate may also certify that a person has received specific education or has passed a test or series of tests depending on the certification.  Due to ease of production as compared to other awards like trophies or plaques, certificates are used to recognize achievements throughout many levels of society.  For example, in U.S. schools certificates of attendance are given to students who are absent less than a certain number of days of school.  A matriculating elementary or secondary school student may receive a certificate stating he/she was most improved in science, mathematics, or a language.  Certificates are often used as an inexpensive positive reinforcement to encourage desired behaviors in many contexts.

In the middle of meeting we will share some experiences about earning licenses / certificates with each other.  In m case, learning scuba diving is opening my view from land to sea and increasing my space from 140000000 km2 to 500000000km2 .  We will know the meaning of “zero gravity”, “inner cosmos” and “the pressure and floating power”.  I remember a time with the diving partners go to the South Taiwan play, the sea was very beautiful, many tropic fishes all will surround at you nearby, they will also bite you lightly, that kind of feel very particularly!  Among them, the impression is the most deep is in the bottom of sea to take a stroll!  We will sit to go to sea up the small boat central, then the announcer will explain how use their diving equipment, that is a very heavy helmet, don't need going together with of oxygen to send, the face can't is moistened, either, is a very special diving equipment!  The time of watering would be very nervous, because I will not swim, going to bottom of sea afterwards, the visibility in the water badly, but win ambiguously and still can see the huge coralline Qiao heel tropic fish, when the bottom of sea run about the sense of direction will be badly! This is an equal and special experience.

In additions, the patent is the second topic.  The civilization of People progress can be made by invent.  You have invent, you have the patent.  For some members, the idea to have the patent is too far to touch.  Now I am telling you “life is patent”.

For more understanding, I am listing my agenda to you:

0200~0220: Warm up and new friends introduction (when we have new comers)

0200~0220: introduction your job characteristic. (when we do not have new members)

0220~0240: Identify the words of license and certificate.

0240~0300: Your value in license and certificate.

0300~0310: How do you prove yourself before they know you.

0310~0330: Willy’s license’s introduction

0330~0350: Member’s license’s introduction

0350~0410: talking about the patent.

0410~0440: Group discussion (inconvenient part in your life or work)

0440~0500: Group discussion (solutions for the inconvenient part in your life or work)

C. Special Request for Preparation: (Suggestion)

Dear Bliss members,

Do you enjoy photography?  Do you know how to make a camera by yourself? This week Kurt is going to tell us much about photography.  The following is from Kurt. Come and join us!!

Regards,

Mengta

Dear all blissers,

This is Kurt. It's my pleasure to host this meeting.

Do you agree with the old adage "A picture is worth a thousand words"?

Do you enjoy photography? Do you like taking picture for others or to take picture by others?

Have you ever join any photo shoots before?

In this Saturday afternoon, we are going to discuss the birth of modern photography and the basic photography fundamentals.

People know how to use a small hole to project the image for a long time. The first pinhole camera was invented around 1000AD (also known as the Camera Obscura). The light-proof box is the simplest camera without any lens and with a single small hole in one side. In this meeting, you will build not only your own pinhole camera but also the handmade camera knowledge. If you're interesting in photography, welcome to join this meeting.

Best regards,

Kurt

Outline

14:00 - 14:20 Opening

14:20 - 15:00 Introduction of modern camera

15:00 - 15:40 Light controlling in photography

15:40 - 15:50 Tea break

15:50 - 17:00 Pinhole camera making

P.S. It would be helpful to bring your knife/scissors to this meeting!

Dear Bliss members,

Last week uncle Ting shared with us his plentiful traveling photos of Indonesia , Greenland and Iceland where I might never have chance to visit. Ting grouped his photos by places and by topics such as food, transportation, hat…etc.  It’s rally interesting for me to know that Iceland is not iced everywhere, and Greenland is not green at all. *-*  And it’s more polite to call an Eskimo ‘Inuit’, since ‘Eskimo’ means barbarian.  Thanks uncle Ting for his kindly host.  Please have a look at our meeting photos: http://picasaweb.google.com/ilovebliss.taipei/TourGuideForIndonesiaGreenlandAndIcelandByTingOct16th#

Next Monday is Taiwan 's Retrocession Day. Thus, WE DON’T HAVE MEETING THIS WEEK!!!

Dear all blissers,

Last week we visited Angela’s luxurious house in 青山鎮. We enjoyed great cakes, fruits as our afternoon tea, and some of us swam in the SPA swimming pools there. I was surprised that there should be a ‘lake’ inside the community, a really big one!  I wish someday I could afford buying a house like this for my retired life, ha.  Thanks Ellen, 灌強, Barkley, Elise, Joey, Kevin, Sandy, Vicky, Olivia and her fiancé, Willy and his family, Catherine, Belle, Stephanie, Naihsin, Karl, Fox and of course, Angela and her parents.  This is our photos: http://picasaweb.google.com/ilovebliss.taipei/TheThirdOutingOf2010September25th#

This week I invite my English tutor, Ben, to host a meeting for us. I’ve known Ben for a year. He is from United States , and now an English teacher in Taipei . He’s quite humorous in class and is going to talk about his home state, Louisiana for the first half of his meeting. And then, he will share about traveling experience, so each of us could bring 1-3 photographs and share with each other.  The following agenda is from Ben.

Best Regards,

Mengta

Hello Everyone,

I am an American English teacher in Taipei and I am very happy to have
the opportunity to meet you all this Saturday.  I enjoy meeting new
people and learning about other cultures, and that is exactly what I
have planned for us this weekend.  Our meeting on Saturday will center
around the language of cultural exchange.  Basically, I intend to
provide a platform from which we can all exercise our abilities in
exchanging information (in English!) with people from different and
sometimes very foreign lands.  These are very simple concepts, all you
need to remember are two basic motivations; first, to fully express
your curiosity through clear and meaningful questions, and second, to
express yourself and your ideas clearly.

The agenda is listed below:

2:00-2:30
Individual introductions:  Everyone will have an opportunity to
introduce themselves in any way they wish.

2:30-3:30
Open question forum in which I will introduce a short history of my
state ( Louisiana ) and its culture.  During this time, we will have an
open discussion as I present my background, and I would prefer if each
person asked at least one or two questions during this
presentation/discussion.

3:30-5:00
During the last half of our meeting I would like to give everyone the
opportunity to share a travel story of their own.  Each person will
tell the group one of their favorite travel/vacation stories and have
1-3 photographs to help support their story.

Enjoy your week and I’ll see you on Saturday!

Dear Bliss members,

Last week Sheena showed us how to establish a group purchasing on internet.  She introduced the concept of group purchasing, each role participating in the transaction, some rules for buying things, and of course, some skills when doing it. Then everybody talked about their experience about group purchasing.  I did try to register as a member in the website Sheena introduced immediately after her meeting, and I found it quite interesting and easy using. The website is www.ihergo.com. Thanks Sheena for her great meeting for us. Our photos: http://picasaweb.google.com/ilovebliss.taipei/GroupPurchasingBySheenaSep11th#

This week, Iris will talk about how to support others in a proper manner. I think it’s useful for everybody.  The following is from Iris.

Please note that we’ll change our meeting place to 伯朗咖啡 南京一店, 南京東路二段218(建國北路口). DO NOT GO TO 老地方手工咖啡. The address information is attached.

Thanks and regards,

From his meeting, we learned what LNG, LPG is, and saw many precious pictures that we might have no chance to see. Ting is a humorous and generous guy. He also gave each of us nice gifts, surprisingly, haha.  Thanks Ting again, and thanks Fox, Joey, Elise, Jill, Vicky, Stephanie, Barkley, Annie and Naihsin for your coming. Hi Blissers,

Last week, teacher Annie did teach us a great lesson about Shakespeare’s sonnet. We learned the structures of a sonnet such as 14 lines, volta , and iambic pentameter, etc. We also tried to read a sonnet correctly with stressed syllables.  And amazingly, we grouped into two teams and tried to write a sonnet of our own from the picture we chose.  I’ll never forget that we should compose our own poem!!!  Good job, all.

I’d like to share the photos as follows.

Dear blissers,

Last Saturday Karl introduced examples of leadership by the film of ‘Apollo 13’ . We can see many crisis management methods and how do a leader behave when it comes to choices of decision. I’ve seen ‘Apollo 13’ for at least two times, yet never thought about that. It’s quite interesting to learn leadership through a movie. Thanks again to Karl.
