Attracted by the prominent MagazineThe Economist”, Blissers came to understand the true meaning of the three chosen selections out of ten in 2017 through the intricate language maze today.

Under the guidance and group discussion led by Ellen, we proceeded Q & A first for perplexing sentences there and then acquired the answers for the guided questions.

Due to time constraint, Blissers strived for accomplishing the tasks and felt satisfied with such team achievement while were evoked with self-challenge for more time preparation prior to the future meetings.

Three selections are summarized as follows:

Selection 1:

Why Trump wins over the Loyal Backers: Evangelical Protestants & Prosperity Gospel Believers?

Trump spoke to their heart: He is daring, straightforward, decisive, interest-centered, self-made man presumably with the Supreme help from God coined as “Man of God.”

Selection 5:

A Tsar is born

Through local repression and asserting Russian global strength strategically, Putin was claimed with superpower as the Tsar did. Unparalleled as Putin might be, Russia eventually will suffer the fierce fight for Putin’s successor as October Revolution in 1917 against last Tsar, Nicholas II.

Selection 9:

Are Cryptocurrencies like Bitcoin(BTC) Bubbles or not?

People create the decentered economy such as crytocurrencies like Bitcoin via the algorithm-computing fluctuated value exchange for more profits. As Crytocurrencies own the exclusive features of anonymous buyers, file encryptions and limited supply, more and more people joined the stage wagon by which CMC and BTC emerged in the real world.

Reflections:

The three selections really reflected the current global attention and answer how and why the hidden mindsets set foot in. We appreciate the host, Ellen’s efforts and participants’ inputs very much. The team discussion clarified our blurry understanding as to enhance our Reading Comprehension, the basic of all the other English skills.  Undeniably, Ellen’s “The Economist” Reading Forum always ranks high among the best! Hopefully, we ignite more “The Economist” lovers joining the Forum in the coming future!
